the empress

Yet another year has passed, which means it must once more be time for another tarot card. (Actually, it means a lot more than that, but this is about the card.)

(Just coincidentally, this also appears to be my 500th post.)

(Just to get off of the soul-sucking subject of politics for a minute.)

and digby says

"By the way, those who are also blithely claiming that Glenn Greenwald can never return to the United States or his home in Rio now are confirming why we should be concerned about all this. Last I heard we still have a First Amendment that protects both Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. If we believe in those things we should believe that it absolutely protects Greenwald and allows him to travel freely in his own country. If it doesn't we have bigger problems than this NSA spying."

nothing lite about it

From Maureen Dowd's (yes, Maureen Dowd's) column today on the confirmation of what I (and a lot of others) have been saying for years about our surveillance state:
"Back in 2007, Obama said he would not want to run an administration that was “Bush-Cheney lite.” He doesn’t have to worry. With prisoners denied due process at Gitmo starving themselves, with the C.I.A. not always aware who it’s killing with drones, with an overzealous approach to leaks, and with the government’s secret domestic spy business swelling, there’s nothing lite about it."
Read the whole thing.

And mad props to Glenn Greenwald and the incredibly heroic person who has provided him with the information we've been reading about these last few days (and will no doubt continue to read about in the days to come).

I came back to the blog today for the first time in quite a while and discovered that last post saved as a draft from sometime back in 2010.

Just sayin'.
